as a practising christian and enthusiastic traveller, i have developed a passionate interest in what i call “the architecture of faith”, the expression of the seeker’s upward gaze in stone, brick, marble and glass.
in europe, africa, india, china and s.e. asia, i have seen churches, cathedrals, mosques, temples and synagogues which take the breath away with their beauty and reverent execution. but the admirer doesn’t have to travel that far – here in the midlands we have some outstanding examples of inspired religious architecture and it is there that i have drawn my compass.
i would like to sincerely thank all the staff at the various “faith buildings” i have visited for extending the warmest invitation to me and for placing their trust in me to photograph the treasures of their holy buildings. in nearly every case, i have not been an adherent of the particular faith associated with the building but i hope that viewers of my work will perceive the sensitivity and utmost respect with which i approached my labours of love.
as you view the photographs, marvel at the hearts and minds that conceived and built these wonderful places of worship and perhaps reflect on the deeply human need to search above and beyond ourselves for truth.
